Allow Pacific Baroque Festival 2025 bring some warmth into your winter – a rare opportunity to discover some musical gems performed by one of the world’s foremost interpreters of north German baroque music – Dorothee Mields (soprano).
This concert is inspired by three Hamburg composers, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Reincken and Johann Thiele, whose music revitalised Hamburg as a center of music while the Thirty Year’s War raged throughout Europe. A free city sheltered from war, Hamburg became a refuge for many musicians and through its wealth established a vibrant musical scene. Their fame encouraged Johannes Voorhout to paint his1674 “An Allegory of Friendship”. Let this concert’s program invite you to ‘step into’ this intimate scene and relish the lightness of music influenced by the emerging stile nuovo of Italy.
